Why Utah State University – College of Education and Human Services is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

Our college was seeking assistance to better understand our general strengths and weaknesses, niche, and our position on various metrics as compared to our peers. We saw Hanover Research as a diverse team with a depth of expertise in higher education market research that could help us leverage our strengths, develop strategies to address our weaknesses, and produce actionable intelligence to expand our mission. We were impressed with the quality and comprehensiveness of example reports provided, the professionalism of the personnel we interacted with, and the range and flexibility in services that could be provided.

In partnership with Hanover, our college hopes to better understand our market niche, identify means to reach that niche, and develop strategies to increase our competitiveness among our peers. The results of our work with Hanover will help us better understand our market position, which then allows us to strategize to improve our position, attract more talented students and faculty, and improve our impact on the community and local economy.

Why West Coast University is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

When deciding to engage with Hanover Research, I was impressed with several of their reports and what I perceived as quality research and succinct and precise reporting. Our goal for the coming year in this partnership is, first and foremost, to gain confidence that our hypothesis about the nursing shortage is valid so we can continue to grow our flagship program. But in addition, we would like to conduct further market research on healthcare programs and employment as we consider how to continue developing outside of nursing. To the degree that our competence meets market demand, we will flourish, and obtaining further clarity about market demand for the programs we offer, and other healthcare related programs will be important in our planning process.

Why Prince George’s Community College is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

Prince George’s Community College’s (PGCC) decision to work with Hanover stemmed largely from the implementation of the college’s new strategic plan, which includes new key performance indicators and goals focused on student success, regional impact, and our organizational excellence. To achieve the new goals, research and analysis are important to provide the data we need to measure our success as well as define our value proposition in the county and the region.
This upcoming year is going to be critical in setting the first data points of our key performance indicators. We’ve participated in research initiatives before as part of the Maryland Association of Community Colleges, so when deciding to engage with Hanover, it was important for us that they be able to replicate the types of studies we’ve done in the past. Working with Hanover will help us acquire baseline data that will shape how we implement our strategic plan. That is our focus now – we are interested in seeing what opportunities exist to create better learning environments for our students to succeed, meet workforce labor demands for businesses in the county and region, and strengthen the college’s overall value proposition.

Why Maryville College is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

We decided to partner with Hanover because we were looking for customized research, based on our specific questions and in the unique context of our institution, as opposed to aggregate data on national trends in higher education. We are looking to Hanover to help us achieve our goal of expanding beyond our traditional approach to undergraduate education. We seek concrete answers about what the viable options are for us based on our specific circumstances so that we can be the best stewards of our resources. We plan to invest in environmental scans and individualized market analyses for potential new programs. With comparative data on student demand, employer demand, competitive saturation, etc., in hand we should be able to make well informed decisions about the most suitable new programs to pursue.

Why Australian Catholic University is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

The biggest factors that influenced our decision to engage with Hanover included their pre-eminent expertise and reputation and our need to augment existing capabilities. During this partnership, we expect Hanover to support ACU’s mission and vision through data-driven decision making. We also plan to enhance and support strategic intelligence capabilities through institutional research on topics of strategic importance, including rankings reputation, enrollments, Geomarket analyses, labour market
analytics, diversification, strategic planning and the student lifecycle.

Why Australian National University is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

The Australian National University prides itself on having an evidence-based decision making philosophy. This increases the demand for quality information, and we see our partnership with Hanover as an opportunity to extend our internal resources further to meet this demand. Currently, the ANU, like other Australian universities, has fantastic data on the Australian High Education Context through our national data sharing agreements. However, education and research are global business and the access to high quality Australian data sometimes leads us to limit our analysis to this context, leaving blind spots in terms of our international benchmark partners. We believe Hanover can help us think globally about how we benchmark and help us to think more laterally around what data is available to us and how it can be used. In Hanover, we believe we have found a partner who can extend our internal capability and bring an international perspective to gathering information to support key decisions.

Why Logan University is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

Logan University’s strategic plan calls for regular and systematic growth over the next few years as we move from a single purpose institute to a chiropractic and health science university. As a small institution, we try to ensure our operations are staffed in accordance with the needs outlined by our enrollment. To stay strong and mighty, it is important that we maximize our resources wherever possible and Hanover is a great opportunity to do that. We plan to work with Hanover to review the market for potential new programs and facility growth. By engaging in three simultaneous research queues with Hanover, we hope to speed up and strengthen the process of improvement at Logan University, ensuring successful complementary degree launches.

For others considering working with an external partner, I suggest they consider the cost of a new team helping current employees write, evaluate and review data for potential new programs and sites. Compare that cost to the cost of contracting with Hanover. I would also recommend they look at the case studies, which show how different school have saved money through program evaluations.

Why Christian Brothers University is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

The most significant factor for our decision to partner with Hanover was their flexibility with respect to the relatively narrow aims of our market research needs. Although I wasn’t originally aware of Hanover’s queue-based model for research projects, that structure turned out to work very nicely with the way we envisioned our needs. Our primary goal is to confirm the viability of our institutional plan to convert three graduate programs to asynchronous online platforms. We expect Hanover to provide clarity on the market for these programs and formats and to supply an appraisal of the overall opportunity (or threat) associated with our plan. In addition, we envision that Hanover will provide us a cogent picture of opportunities to add online programs either as conversions of our current mix of program offerings or by identifying market demand for programs we might consider developing. While we’re engaging with Hanover because we lack the internal expertise, I think knowing what we wanted to accomplish and in what time frame has made the engagement experience fruitful from the beginning.

Why Northern College is Partnering with Hanover Research

As a small college, we are tapping into Hanover’s research expertise to help us do the ‘heavy lifting’ for our overall institutional planning. We hope to define a program mix that meets the labor market needs of 2025. We believe Hanover will help us not only better understand our strategic needs, but also provide us with informed evidence for decision making. To others considering that employing a third party, understanding your internal expertise and capacity is paramount. A third party, like Hanover, can help fill the gaps that exist in your institution, ensuring you achieve your overall goals.

Why UNC School of Education is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

Increasingly, leadership and faculty members in institutions of higher education are seeking thoroughly vetted evidence and meticulously executed research when it comes to making decisions about investments in critical initiatives, such as launching a new undergraduate degree or a new online professional master’s program. These initiatives often entail significant investments on the part of academic units in terms of faculty and staff time, as well as development, marketing, and recruitment funds. Thus, we find ourselves looking for a trusted partner who can deliver these sorts of research projects as needed; a partner who can work at arm’s length, not having a vested interest in the respective initiatives launching or otherwise; and a partner who is available on demand and ready to engage in a wide variety of these and similar projects on our behalf. At the UNC School of Education, we believe we found in Hanover this very partner, and we look forward to launching into a number of research projects with them that will inform decisions that are critical for the future of our school.

We were especially drawn to Hanover’s market analyses, research expertise and shared library to fill an expertise gap at our University. In the coming year, we plan to conduct various research studies to

We hope that our partnership with Hanover will aid us in selecting which current programs to offer in new locations, to generate maximum enrollments and meet the needs of the community. When deciding which external partner to work with, we were most impressed with the level of research Hanover provides at a very reasonable price point.

Why Nazareth College is Partnering with Hanover Research

Why UMBC’s College of Engineering and Information Technology is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

I made the decision to partner with Hanover because I had prior interactions with them that were quite good, and I was interested in doing something new here [in the College of Engineering and Information Technology] that we had not done before. My goal for the deanship here at UMBC is to have my new college be more impactful in helping the university elevate positive synergy between our academic programs and our research enterprise. When I started last fall I interviewed all of the faculty in the college individually. More support for proposal writing and advice on grantsmanship came up repeatedly in those interviews. I am hoping that this new partnership will positively impact faculty members at all stages of their career and inspire them to compete for research support in areas and at scales that they had not previously considered. I think it is important to find partners who are willing to work on solutions tailored to your specific needs and Hanover meets that criteria.

Why University of Northwestern – St. Paul is Working with Hanover

We partnered with Hanover because they seemed to provide more thorough and personalized service than some of the other providers we considered. We like that Hanover provides both primary and secondary research, their flexibility on the size and type of projects, and their proactive effort to align with our current and future needs. We plan to use Hanover to help us assess several large ticket items that are part of our overall institutional growth strategy, including entering new markets or broadening current markets. As we now develop specific strategies for each item, we are working with Hanover to ensure what we do is in alignment with the market. In addition, we believe that Hanover can function as a pseudo market research arm to our marketing team.

Why Mount Saint Mary’s University, Los Angeles is Working with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

Our goal for the coming year is to examine a variety of proposed academic offerings and cost models to determine the best opportunities for tuition revenue and head count growth over the next two years. We had previously engaged other research partners but had grown disappointed in their “cookie cutter” approach with assumptions about the marketplace. In determining who to select as our research partner, we conducted an internal assessment of the upcoming projects and analyzed which partner could offer both unique research and access to existing similar research. Hanover’s ability to bundle all projects for a total cost less than what would be charged by other competitors made this an easy decision.

Curtin University’s strategies are focused on further strengthening its global positioning. Hanover Research's global expertise and their ability to provide market insights were key reasons as to why we engaged with them. The global higher education market is a very competitive environment and we will be relying on Hanover to assist in strengthening our brand and market presence. When evaluating a potential market research partner, we recommend selecting someone who can provide actionable insights in areas other than those which you are familiar with. Hanover was able to demonstrate that their expertise would do just that.

Robert T. Burrus, Jr., Dean, Cameron School of Business, University of North Carolina Wilmington

Topic: Higher Education

The current landscape is far more competitive than it was a few years ago.  We can no longer afford to make decisions based on syndicated research, decisions our peers have made, or gut feeling. We don’t have the luxury of a robust institutional research department to support our decision-making, and we see Hanover as a cost-effective way to provide custom research for a fixed annual cost that will inform decisions the College of Business is facing. We plan to leverage Hanover especially as it relates to new programming - assessing the viability of new offerings, our competition, and how best to attract and retain the best and brightest students. We would like to set a new standard and create a culture of data-driven-decision-making.  We are especially excited to develop a stronger understanding of our current market – what current programs should we expand and what new programs should we consider.  Working with Hanover will ultimately increase our competitiveness and ability to attract and retain students.

Why Auburn University – Office of Proposal Services and Faculty Support is Working with Hanover Research

As an office providing direct support to faculty on campus, we strive to offer resources that are both timely and of value. The support that Hanover has provided to our faculty has been well received and appreciated by those who have utilized the service. They have served as a great partner, providing critical insight and narrative review for developed proposals as well as assisting in the initial planning phase of upcoming opportunities.

As an institution, you need to ensure that all stakeholders are engaged in decision-making in order to determine if an external partner is both cost-effective and necessary. We here at Auburn University's Office of Proposal Services and Faculty Support decided that Hanover was worth the investment.

Why Northwestern University - Pritzker School of Law is Working with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

In deciding whether to partner with Hanover, it ultimately boiled down to hiring additional staff versus hiring an external research firm. Because Hanover in effect becomes your own dedicated research arm, this struck us as a highly cost-effective way to expand our R&D resources and expertise at the same time.  And Hanover’s strong reputation in the education industry is well known.

With all of the changes taking place in the legal industry, we see great opportunity to reimagine much of what we do in order to best prepare our graduates for their careers.  This process rightly needs to be informed by sophisticated, data-driven research and will include assessments of industry needs, other law school activity, and of our own internal offerings and processes.

Why Delaware Valley University is Working with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

There were several factors that influenced Delaware Valley University to engage with Hanover Research. We had recently established a 2018 institutional goal to grow the School of Graduate and Professional Studies, which would require a major research component. We were seeking a partner who could analyze our challenges in relation to national trends and was willing to get to know our institution from the ground up. Why North Central University is Working with Hanover Research

North Central University elected to partner with Hanover Research partly due to their reputation in research and marketing. We plan to leverage this tool and the others available to us through Hanover Digital to get a better sense of the past, current, and future market trends. Knowing what options may or may not be feasible to us will help us determine what further options can be pursued and what initiatives we should explore.

Claremont School of Theology Remarks on Long Standing Partnership with Hanover

Topic: Higher Education

We have a long relationship with Hanover. Their work is uniformly excellent, and has become more detailed and more insightful as its number of associates has increased during our relationship. The quality and the amount of useful information we get far exceeds the cost for the engagement. For less than the cost of hiring an institutional research position, we get a considerable amount of data and analysis that supports decision making at the highest levels of the organization. Hanover's people are easy to work with, smart, and really listen to our needs, often giving us more than we thought we needed. Hanover is an excellent value.

Why Campbell University is Working with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

We partnered with Hanover because they have a reputation for excellence in research, possess a breadth of research expertise within the company, and feature access to a vast research archive.

Like all growing universities, Campbell has more research projects we’d like to execute than there is staff power to complete.  Partnering with Hanover and using the company’s resources will allow us an opportunity to explore lingering questions, like enrollment management and program development, and make informed decisions about the University’s future.

Campbell was seeking a research partner who has the experience to help us transform our general queries into refined research questions, access to the best external data bases, the internal resources and capacity to analyze our data, the capability of producing reliable findings and conclusions, and the ability to leave the results in our hands for us to make our own data-based decisions and create our own destiny. If you are looking for partners and not consultants, we recommend Hanover Research.

Why Henry Ford College is Working with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

Henry Ford College is extremely lean administratively. We do not have the resources to engage in the types of research activities that will provide us with answers to questions that enable us to move forward in meeting our strategic goals and objectives. Specifically, the College has been struggling with the need to create new revenue streams as well as improving enrollment, retention and graduation rates.  By using Hanover’s services, Henry Ford College plans to have timely, focused information that we will use to implement new strategies and improve operations.

The decision to engage with Hanover was a joint decision between the VP of Strategy and Information and VP of Academic Affairs. As they were deliberating whether to proceed with our relationship with Hanover, cost and benefits kept rising as major considerations. Our perspective was that the return on this investment made the associated costs worthwhile.

Our President worked with Hanover previously while he was the Dean of Academics at West Point. His experience was terrific, and he suggested we consider a similar relationship for Mount St. Mary’s. As the oldest independent Catholic university in America, we are very proud of our alumni and the impact they have had on the world. We are in the process of rethinking how we engage our alumni and, with Hanover’s assistance, plan to look at many aspects of our program to ensure we are maximizing our time and resources. The projects that will have the biggest impact on the institution will be identifying people who believe in our mission but may not know that Mount St. Mary’s has been preparing our graduates to lead lives of significance since 1808.

Why Young Harris College is Working with Hanover Research

Topic: Higher Education

Growth at Young Harris is key. When we have thought about partners to take this journey with us, we had some ideal characteristics: strong methodologies, a focused partnership model, and a desire to be a true partner, not just a resource. Hanover is our partner for growing programs, identifying new student markets, and meeting demands of students. As we continuously evolve and move into our new plan, we enlisted the help of Hanover to ‘test the waters’ for validity in new markets, such as undergraduate programs, adult education and graduate-level programs. After seeing redacted studies and samples of research done by Hanover, we realized that Hanover could meet our needs – and that this investment would assist in our strategic growth.

Why University of Maryland School of Medicine is Working with Hanover

Topic: Higher Education

We joined Hanover because, although we are already very good at writing grant proposals, with research funding being so tight these days even small improvements in grant proposals may make the difference between getting funded or not. When we weighed the cost of hiring an additional full time staff member for our pre-award office against the cost of a subscription from Hanover, we felt that this was an efficient way to supplement the pre-award team. We want to continue on a strong trajectory of growth in research funding with a particular emphasis on NIH and other Federal grants, and we will focus on large complex program project grants and on research and career development grants for junior faculty. If external support results in even a single large award, or a career development award for a junior faculty member at a critical make-or-break stage of their career, it will be well worth the investment.

The Shared Service report was a critical source of research used in planning and preparing a grant proposal for a regional shared service model. Regardless of grant funding, the ESC will utilize the information from Hanover in internal capacity building and planning for shared services.
