Why Oro Grande School District is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: K-12 Education

As a small district with limited staff members, both the research library and access to the project team will be instrumental in helping us make informed decisions based on student learning. Being able to point to the impact and connection from one practice to another will really help us move learning forward. Additionally, we see the research library as a resource for our employees that are participating in CTI or continuing their education. We believe access to action research will help them further develop their skills and keep them current.  It will also help strike the appropriate balance of theory and practice as they delve into significant education issues.

Why Kansas City Public Schools is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: K-12 Education

With many priorities and little time, we want to impact change as quickly as possible.  To do so, we felt we needed external expert guidance and support. Hanover comes with a great reputation and experience, making them a natural choice for us. In the coming year, we want to self-reflect and self-evaluate with an open and honest view of our internal structures and processes.  We believe we are best equipped to do that with Hanover. To others considering working with a third party to tackle issues in the classroom and central office, we advise they be brave enough to use outside influence and expertise to hold themselves accountable. External partners, like Hanover, force honest conversation at the highest levels.

Why Alpine School District is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: K-12 Education

Alpine School District’s vision for learning states, ‘Our students acquire the essential knowledge, skills, and dispositions in each content area and the fundamental capacities of collaboration, critical thinking, communication, creativity, citizenship, and character.’  Our pursuit of that vision led us to focus resources on 21st century/deeper learning.  This project—providing extended, job-embedded professional development for teachers and principals and providing instructional coaches—will have a larger impact on teaching and learning than any other initiative to date. We expect this impact to be seen in unprecedented student engagement K-12 and in developing skills for success beyond high school.

We believe Hanover will help us in both our student academic goals and teacher and administrator goals by examining our practices, and then providing us with validation of the effective work we do, as well as identifying areas that do not align with best practices for teaching and learning for 21st century/deeper learning. When contemplating engaging with an external partner, I recommend school district leaders ask themselves and their constituents two questions.  First, what is it that we most want our students to know and be able to do when they exit our school system?  In other words, what kind of graduate do we hope to produce?  Next ask, how can we know whether our current professional services are aligned to achieve those ends? A serious pursuit to measure our effectiveness likely leads to an external partner, like Hanover, who can help us see what we on the inside cannot.

Why Arcadia Unified School District is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: K-12 Education

Arcadia Unified has been heavily engaged in efforts to reimagine what education in a public school district can look like with learners squarely at the center. We quickly realized that having a strong research capacity, both internally and externally, was essential when it comes to setting direction and making well-informed decisions as we explore the possibilities. Through our conversations with Hanover Research, it became apparent that forming a partnership with them could help us achieve our goals. Specifically, we believe that Hanover can help us form project efficacy reviews and create a foundation of research literature that will guide our pilots as we explore different elements of personalization in education, including flexible classroom environments, increasing student agency, student goal setting and open educational resources.

Why Saint Paul Public Schools is Partnering with Hanover Research

Topic: K-12 Education

When deciding to engage with Hanover, we were impressed by the library of materials that were timely and relevant for many of our current strategies. We are currently embarking on a strategic planning process, where we will develop outcomes, focus areas and initiatives based on the needs of our students and community. The information base will be essential as we make critical decisions that will impact our district for the next several years. With increased demands on data-based decisions that are relevant, effective and high-leverage, an external thought partner and research library is definitely a good investment.

Why Fairfax County Public Schools is Working with Hanover

Topic: K-12 Education

We are a larger district that already has an Office of Program Evaluation. However, the Academic Office wanted an objective, third-party research partner to deliver custom best practices and benchmarking reports to inform some of our new initiatives. We partnered with Hanover because of its extensive experience in K-12 education best practices research as well as its flexible model’s ability to keep pace with our priorities. In the immediate future, we’ll use Hanover to explore best practices for personalized professional development programs and will be taking advantage of the Hanover Digital report library’s collection of existing best practices reports.

Alexandria City Public Schools Trusts Hanover’s Research to Guide Middle Schools for Tomorrow Workgroup Planning Efforts

Topic: K-12 Education

The Middle Schools for Tomorrow Workgroup was brought together to allow parents, students, teachers, and the larger community to take an active role in crafting their vision of the future for ACPS middle schools. The workgroup was asked to create their idealized middle school, take a critical look at current practices within Alexandria middle schools, and ultimately lay the groundwork for how the division should move strategically forward.

Hanover Research, in conjunction with school division staff, were integral in this work by supplying best practices research around identified topics, crafting and administering a survey, providing quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and responding to stakeholder feedback throughout the six-month process. Decisions are only as good as the information used in forming them, and the research and data analysis provided allowed the stakeholder group to make the highest quality decisions not only in reaction to where our middle schools had been, but more importantly where they must go.

The Arlington Public Schools (APS) has had a contract with Hanover for over five years to provide both research and grant management services and has recently signed a five-year extension.  Hanover provides high-quality, timely, and well-articulated services working closely with APS staff.  Whether working with staff who have significant grant and research experience or staff new to the process, Hanover’s team is professional and expert.  We have used them to research specific topics, provide assistance in program evaluation, and assist with identifying grants and all stages of the grant application process, both for instructional as well as facilities-focused grants. I cannot stress enough the quality of their work and their ability to work within very tight deadlines.
