WASHINGTON, DC — The Cochise Community Foundation recently awarded Cochise College $4,000 to support underserved students and nonprofit organizations alike in Cochise County, Arizona. Two professors at Cochise College approached Hanover Research for assistance in developing grant proposals, aligning program designs within foundation priorities, and including a dimension of measurable objectives and outcomes.
The programs will further the College’s mission to reach a traditionally underserved student population and to provide critical support to community agencies by:
1) Helping 15 high-risk 12 grade students at Buena Vista High School transition from secondary education to Cochise College through a summer bridge program. The program is closely aligned with Cochise’s strategic plan to invest in the future of the College by adding more local graduates to the workforce;
2) Providing training for participants from 24 nonprofit organizations on a Quick Books for Nonprofits accounting program. The program will build capacity for Cochise Community Foundation grantees and 32 Sierra Vista United Way partner agencies.
Cochise College’s grant partnership with Hanover Research’s Community College Administration Practice began in February of 2010. Over the past three and a half years, Hanover Research has completed 77 grant development projects on the College’s behalf, dedicating over 1170 hours to further Cochise’s grantseeking efforts. Hanover grants consultants have enabled the the institution to receive over $2.8 Million in funding through 12 funding appeals to an array of federal and private foundations. Out of these 12 grant proposals, seven have received funding, bringing the College’s award total to nearly $800,000. To date, Cochise has received close to a third of all dollars requested throughout its partnership with Hanover.
Chad Ross, Managing Director of Hanover’s Grant Development Center, has shared in Cochise’s success as one of Hanover’s most awarded partners. Regarding this specific funding award, Chad stated: “These recent awards from the Cochise Community Foundation build on Hanover’s strong record of similar wins in support of the College’s mission. Given the limited funding available, this is a great win at the local level that will position Cochise for growing the relationship in the years to come.”
