In Spring 2020, we were forced to quickly shift to virtual learning platforms to maintain learning continuity during COVID-19. At the time, we needed to focus on our most immediate needs, but as our Fall 2020 reopening will continue virtual learning in some capacity, we wanted to enhance our virtual learning to maximize student engagement and support our students.
Hanover created a Virtual Student Engagement Toolkit for us, identifying strategies for our staff to facilitate behavioral, cognitive, and affective learner engagement in a virtual environment. Information in this project is being used right now by three groups in our school district: instructional coaches who are writing online curriculum, full-time online teachers, and principals, who will share implications with classroom teachers who are also supporting a small number of students learning remotely this year due to COVID-19. The results of this project were clear and practical. It has been widely shared already and put to immediate use!
