Due to stakeholder concern about the quality and consistency of reading instruction throughout the district, we decided to plan for the implementation of a core reading program for the 2021-22 school year. In addition to supporting evidence-based reading instruction and improved student reading outcomes throughout the district, we believe a core reading program will also relieve teachers of the need to create or find materials on their own.
We decided to partner with Hanover to identify the characteristics of high-quality, evidence-based core reading programs and benchmark currently available core reading programs. The Core Reading Report that Hanover produced was met with rave reviews. This report is an integral part of our material selection committee work right now and was exactly what we had in mind to help us identify the core reading program that will best meet our needs.
